CALHOUN FAMILY TEAMS UP WITH CONNECTICUT CANCER PARTNERSHIP PSA CAMPAIGN
Rocky Hill, CT (25 February 2010)—Last year, 19,000 Connecticut residents were diagnosed with cancer. That’s enough people to fill every seat and more at the XL Center in Hartford. With the XL Center as a backdrop, the Connecticut Cancer Partnership (CCP) is proud to announce a new public service campaign featuring a well- known Connecticut family.
“All those empty seats are a powerful message. That’s why I’m supporting the Connecticut Cancer Partnership’s goal to increase cancer screenings,” said Jeff Calhoun. Jeff’s dad “works” at the XL Center. Jeff’s dad—Coach Jim Calhoun—is a cancer survivor.
The PSA campaign uses the empty XL Center as a powerful metaphor about the scope of cancer in Connecticut.
“Every seat represents a life that could be saved,” Jeff notes.
“Using an adult child of a well-known cancer survivor as our spokesperson really helps to empower other adult children to encourage their parents to be screened,” said Dr. Andrew Salner, Board Member, Connecticut Cancer Partnership. “We appreciate the support of the Calhoun family.”
The PSA campaign kicks off in March during National Colon Cancer Awareness Month (coinciding with "March Madness" NCAA Basketball Tournament). Comcast donated the air-time. The spot was produced by Elkinson + Sloves, Inc., a Farmington, CT-based marketing firm.
