Partnership Hosts 5th Annual Members Meeting. ACS Chief Medical Officer Otis Brawley is Keynote Speaker

A coalition representing 149 Connecticut organizations dedicated to reducing the burden of cancer in Connecticut came together on September 19 for the Connecticut Cancer Partnership's Fifth Annual Meeting at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell. The meeting was led by Partnership Chair Dr. Andrew Salner of Hartford Hospital and the Connecticut State Medical Society and included keynote guest speaker Otis Brawley, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of the American Cancer Society. The over-arching theme for the meeting was Comprehensive Cancer Planning: Disparities, Access and the Next Five Years. Presentations on the collaborative cancer control initiatives for Connecticut included: Andrea L. Silber, MD, Director of Oncology Clinic, Father Michael McGivney Cancer Center, Hospital of Saint Raphael, New Haven, who spoke on Equality in Sickness, Equality in Health; Sakinah Carter Suttiratana, MPH, MBA, Matrix Public Health Solutions, Inc., who spoke on the Focus on Evaluation; and Lucinda H. Hogarty, Director of Connecticut Cancer Partnership who spoke about Bridges: Moving from Planning to Action and prioritizing the objectives for the 2009-2013 Connecticut Cancer Plan.
